Trish Kopp Becomes First and Only First-Time Candidate in Suffolk County to Max Out Public Matching Funds

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — August 11, 2026 — In one of Suffolk County’s most competitive State Assembly races, Democratic candidate Trish Kopp has officially reached the maximum $175,000 in public matching funds through New York State’s Public Campaign Finance Program, making her the first and only first-time candidate in Suffolk County to max out the program this election cycle.

This milestone gives Kopp significant momentum heading into the final months of the campaign for Assembly District 7, an open seat that is expected to be among the most closely contested legislative races on Long Island this November.

“This is bigger than a fundraising milestone. It shows that people across our community believe this race is winnable and are ready for new leadership,” said Kopp. “Every contribution, every door knocked, every phone call, and every volunteer who has stepped up has helped build this campaign into what it is today.”

Kopp, a high school teacher, mother of four, and first-time candidate, has built a grassroots campaign focused on the issues facing Suffolk County families every day: the rising cost of living, strong public schools, good-paying union jobs, and creating opportunities for young people to build their futures here on Long Island.

New York State’s Public Campaign Finance Program amplifies eligible contributions from New Yorkers, allowing grassroots-supported candidates to compete without relying solely on large-dollar donors.

For Kopp, reaching the full $175,000 public matching funds maximum means the campaign enters the final stretch with additional resources to communicate with voters across Assembly District 7 and expand its field operation.

“We maxed out the matching funds. Now we’re going to maximize the movement,” Kopp said. “This race will be won neighbor by neighbor and conversation by conversation. We are ready to knock the doors, make the calls, and do the work it takes to win in November.”

With Election Day approaching, the Kopp campaign is expanding its volunteer operation throughout Assembly District 7, including door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, community outreach, and voter engagement.
